WHAT IS GYKO?

GyKo is an inertial measurement tool for the analysis of the
movement of any body segment

Thanks to its latest generation components, it is able to supply acceleration
measurements of up to 16g and angular velocities of up to 2000°/s with an
acquisition frequency of 1000 Hz. The Bluetooth data transmission provides
real-time measurements directly to the PC via the Microgate software that,
with its scientifically validated algorithms, offers simplified data processing
and interpretation. Data can also be acquired without a PC, using a MicroSD
memory card, thanks to its long lasting battery.

FUNCTIONALITY AND COMPONENTS

GyKo makes it possible to objectively evaluate and monitor joint functionality
and muscle strength during rehabilitation phases and for training a certain area
of the musculoskeletal system. It is used to quickly identify any posture deficiencies,
problems or asymmetries and, thanks to the immediate delivery of the numerical
values, it helps prevent relapses, complications and regressions of the disease or
post-accident condition by periodically checking the results obtained and the
effectiveness of the treatments. It makes it possible to perform motor movements
that are more or less complex without limiting or influencing the subject, also due
to the fact that it can be used outdoors and on any surface (grass, sand, unstable
platforms, etc.). It motivates the subject to constantly improve his conditions.

Gyko contains the latest generation components that are used for carrying out accurate and
repeatable measurements of acceleration, angular velocity and magnetic field in three dimensions.

3D accelerometer

QUALITY AND OPERATION

GyKo is the ideal tool for those who want to receive an objective evaluation
of the human movement analysis in a quick and intuitive manner without any
reduction in precision of the data measured. Thanks to the research carried
out for creating and processing the software dedicated to it and its latest-generation
technical features, GyKo offers services that can be compared to the industry gold
standards, but its ease of use and data display make it a much more practical tool.

Its application on various body segments is made easier by the use of various
accessories, such as the pelvic belt, the vest, two belts of different sizes for upper
and lower limbs and a magnetic support that can be fastened on weights or a barbell.
It is all easy to carry with you thanks to its small, compact case.

GYKO IN COMBINATION WITH Optojump & Optogait

OptoJump Next and OptoGait represent today the most advanced system for
obtaining information about the lower part of the body. It is in fact possible to
quickly and accurately obtain the measurement of the space-time parameters
of the gait, when walking or running, or the flight and contact time of a jump.

WALKING AND RUNNING ANALYSIS

The gait analysis is one of the most widely used methods to
determine any disorders of the nervous and/or musculoskeletal
system. With Optojump Next and OptoGait you can estimate the
space-time parameters of the gait and isolate individual phases
of the step, then accurately describe the behaviour of the lower body.

Gait Analysis su Treadmill

Gyko, placed in the area beneath the shoulder blade by using a special
bib with a comfortable 3-button fastening, enables naturally integrating
the information measured on the ground with the kinematics of the trunk
in order to provide accurate information on the stability and coordination
of the upper body.

The movement of the trunk is analysed in each phase of the step and,
through advanced algorithms, specific parameters of the analysed test
are estimated such as:

  • Antero-posterior and medio-lateral imbalance
  • Main directions and breadth of the movement of the trunk
  • Upper Phase Coordination Index (UPCI) that describes coordination in
    the rotation of the trunk
  • Phase difference between the lower body and the upper body
  • RMS, Harmonic Ratio and Harmonicity index describing gait stability

JUMP ANALYSIS

Using field tests and in particular vertical jump analysis has always
been a widely used method for evaluating lower limb muscle strength.
OptoJump Next is the instrument used to measure and objectify the
main features of a jump such as flight and contact time.

Gyko placed near the centre of mass with a special belt enables enriching
the temporal data with a variety of information regarding the dynamics of
the jump. It is then possible to measure lower limb strength directly and,
using appropriate algorithms, accurately and repeatably provide data relating
both to the eccentric loading phase and to the concentric thrust phase.

The movement of the trunk during the flight and contact phase is analysed
and provides, among other things, the following additional parameters:

  • Eccentric and concentric work and duration
  • Force, Velocity and Maximum Power
  • Rate of Force Development and Landing Rate

POSTURE ANALYSIS

Postural analysis is frequently used to evaluate the stability and balance
of a quiet standing subject.

Posture analysisPosture analysis

Gyko, placed on the trunk or at the level of the centre of mass, provides
important information about the body sway of the subject and through
appropriate protocols it enables evaluating the relative contribution made
by the various components of the postural system (visual, proprioceptive
of different origin, labyrinthine, etc.).

Gyko lets you simply and quickly obtain the best known indexes concerning
the projection of the body’s centre of gravity on the ground.

The main indexes returned are:
  • Projection length and area
  • Projection travel speed
  • Sway frequency

THE GYKO REPOWER SOFTWARE

Gyko can also be used in a stand-alone version, that is without needing
to be associated with Optogait or Optojump Next, using the Gyko
RePower software

The GyKo software has a state-of-the-art interface that is fully dedicated to it,
and the constant research and development of the algorithms used to supply
the data make it possible to perform a quick and accurate analysis in situations
such as after an accident, during a recovery phase or if the subject wants to improve
and monitor the progress of his performance during a training phase. In the registry
area, it is possible to enter the fundamental data of the various subjects as well as
add tabs or photos for a faster search. The central part of the software is divided
into two sections, Rehab and Power.

The Rehab section implements protocols for the evaluation and monitoring
of joint functionality and muscle strength when rehabilitating a certain
section of the musculoskeletal system and also makes it possible to perform
a stabilometric analysis of the centre of mass.

A traumatic event involving the musculoskeletal system forces the individual to a period
of immobilisation. During the rehabilitation process, the task of the therapist is to
guarantee a return to levels of muscle strength that are able to guarantee that an athlete
or a senior citizen can return to normal daily activities (running, going up stairs, etc.).
From this point of view, it becomes very important to be able to evaluate, using an objective
and non-subjective method, the muscular abilities of the subject in order to create an
individual training program whose effectiveness can be monitored.

GykoRePower accompanies the subject during the entire rehabilitation process, with a
360 degree analysis of his physical condition: evaluation of the joint function and muscle
strength in the body areas involved with the accident and/or orthopaedic surgery, using the
elastic belts on the limbs; evaluation of the condition of balance in different situations and/or
on different surfaces with the help of the pelvic belt or by positioning Gyko between the two
shoulder blades. GykoRePower is a tool able to evaluate and report each evolutionary phase in
the recovery of joint function and muscle strength.

The Rehab section of GykoRePower makes it possible to:
  • quantify the deficit in terms of joint function or muscle strength between a limb and the
contralateral or between the injured limb and the same limb prior to the accident
  • evaluate and measure the subject’s balance in different situations and/or on different surfaces
  • monitor the exercise intensity with real-time visual bio-feedback via a work threshold that
can be selected by the user
  • trace and report the subject’s recovery during the entire rehabilitation process by means
    of the report functionality

The Power section is used to evaluate and monitor muscle strength.
When the target of the training is to optimise performance, it becomes very
important for athletes to measure and analyse the improvement of their results
in an objective and accurate manner.
